What is
Deep Tissue Massage?
-
The Deep Tissue Massage is an extension of the Swedish massage which was developed in the 1800 s and is based on using firm pressure to improve circulation, ease muscles aches and tension, and create relaxation. The theoretical basis for this style of bodywork is that significant benefits are derived by increasing circulation, increasing oxygen flow in the blood and releasing toxins, such as lactic acid, uric acid and other metabolic waste, held in the muscles and soft tissue of the body.
In a Deep Tissue massage, the Practitioner will utilize their elbows, hands, palms, thumbs and fingertips to apply to the body a series of five movement styles: light or hard touch, soft or deep kneading, rhythmic tapping, friction and vibration. The Practitioner mixes these movements over a 60-120 minute period in a pattern generally beginning with shoulder work and will also incorporate the use of various oils and lotions to assist in the effectiveness of these motions.

A Deep Tissue massage program provides benefits that include increased circulation without increased heart load, maintaining pliable ligaments and tendons, reduced joint pain, stimulated skin, soothed nerves, relaxed nervous system and overall promotion of health and well being.
Deep Tissue massage is traditionally performed on a massage table and the recipient may disrobe to a level in which they are comfortable, generally without clothes. Regardless, the recipient’s privacy is always maintained. At Oasis Thai Massage and Spa, each session is in a private (or couples) room and the recipient may also select a massage on futon mat instead of the standard massage table. We suggest you avoid heavy eating for 2 to 3 hours prior to the massage.
